RSR Screenz and NK Kraft Private Limited bring to us the much awaited suspense thriller Aadhiyum Andhamum, the debut directorial venture of actor-turned-filmmaker Kaushik. This movie stars Kolangal Ajay and debutant Mitali Agarwal in the lead.
Dr. Karan (Ajay) arrives in Ooty, and joins as a teaching faculty at a reputed medical institution there. The host of a famous television show - Reality Bites, has also arrived at the same college to film for her next episode. The Dean of the institution welcomes Dr. Karan and asks an attender Muthu to show him his quarters. Karan, while walking through the college finds something about the place disturbs him. Every night at 1:00 am, he happens to wake up with a chill, and on one such night, he finds a mysterious young lady in his room. She doesn't talk, but just cries. After repeatedly telling other people, who don't see any such person, Karan decides to follow the lady in the night. The TV anchor seems to be the only person who is willing to listen to Karan. The attender Muthu and the Dean are trying to keep Karan away from the anchor and strange things continue happening in the college and hospital at night. There is also a mysterious grave at a corner of the institution. Whose grave is it? Who is the young lady who is visible only to Karan's eyes? What is happening at the institution? Are the Dean and the attender hiding something? Why does Karan suddenly attack the TV anchor and then ask her to escape from the institution? Director Kaushik makes an impressive debut with Aadhiyum Andhamum. He is no stranger to the camera, having been an actor himself. Ajay, as Dr. Karan impresses everybody with his performance. The lead lady - Mitali Agarwal, has performed really well and the support cast have given amazing performances too. The movie keeps the viewers engrossed till the end, though the cliched dialogues at places hamper the screenplay. For people who regularly watch Hollywood movies, they would get a feel of watching Halle Berry's Gothika in the first half and Leonardo DiCaprio's Shutter Island in the second. Music plays a major part in the movie and LV Ganesan has given out one of his best scores. The dialogues could have been better and the placement of songs could also have been given more thought. However, the script and tight screenplay keep the movie moving forward steadily.
